In the fall of 2023, we took a 10-day trip out west to explore different HMAs in Wyoming and one in Montana. Of great importance on this trip was the Salt Wells Creek HMA, which is currently slated to be zeroed out to contain no wild horses by the end of summer 2025. In this HMA, horses have a rare genetic trait that presents with curls. After this summer, the iconic "curly" horses will no longer exist, except for in captivity until their extinction, unless a miraculous oversight can happen and the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) is halted from their current plan. It was important to me to document their existence, although I had hoped it would ultimately not be needed. Unless the Trump administration decides to step in and save our history for our future generations, it appears they are doomed and will be forever lost.

On this trip, we also took several days to explore one of our nation's largest national parks. Yellowstone. And, oh man, did it live up to its name! Absolutely immense in size and saturated in pure beauty everywhere you look. So many creatures! We hope to make it back there sooner rather than later.... and this time dedicate an entire week to just explore its 4 quadrants.
